Let’s be real, coming up with new date ideas can be a bit tricky after a while. There are only so many times you can grab dinner or watch a film, and sometimes you just want a bit of a refresh when it comes to things to do together. Luckily for you, you’ve landed in exactly the right place: smack bang in the middle of our guide on fun things to do as a couple!
Whether you’re looking to get competitive with a games night or book that trip you’ve been talking about forever, we’ve got lots of ideas to inspire you. So dive in, pick something to suit you and your other half, and get your next date in the diary.
1. Get competitive at games night
If it’s chucking it down with rain and heading out doesn’t sound appealing, why not settle down to a games night? Stop at the shops and throw all your favourite snacks in the basket, then head home and set things up. Clear the coffee table, light some candles, and play card games, quizzes or whatever you fancy.
We’ve got lots more ideas on things to do at home, plus these at-home date ideas to keep things interesting.
2. Finally book that trip
If you’d rather stretch your legs and explore, you could always bite the bullet and book that trip you’ve been talking about forever. Wander around Rome and eat your body weight in pasta or chill on a beach in Majorca. There’s no need to get on a plane either of you don’t want to, as a cosy staycation can be just as fun.
3. Have a spontaneous picnic
When the sun finally decides to make an appearance, a picnic is the perfect way to waste away the day together. All you’ll need is a blanket and a bunch of snacks thrown in a bag (like mini sausage rolls, crisps and fresh berries) and a nice spot in the park or by the beach. Our guide on how to plan the perfect picnic is filled with everything you’ll need.
4. Get dressed up for a show
Book tickets to a comedy, drama, or musical and get dressed up for an evening out. You can make a proper date out of it by grabbing food and drinks after too, as you’ll likely have lots to chat about over dinner. A concert is another fun idea if an artist you both love is touring nearby!
5. Brave a theme park
If spending half the day upside down, screaming your head off sounds like your idea of fun, book a theme park trip! Don’t forget to lean into the fun of it all by sporting a rain poncho for the water rides and buying the obligatory, extremely attractive on-ride photo (the one where one of you is terrified and the other is having the time of their life).
6. Escape room fun
Nothing tests your relationship quite like being locked in a room with no apparent way to escape… But seriously, an escape room can be a brilliant date night if you fancy something a little different. There are loads of fun themes to choose from too, like haunted houses and murder mysteries. Remember it’s all fun and games, so no bickering allowed.
7. Wander around a museum
If you’re looking for something relaxing, a museum trip can be more fun than you might think. Start the day by grabbing coffee and a pastry, then stroll over to a museum of your choosing. Whether you’re into ancient history or fancy pretending you know your way around classic art, there’s bound to be something that’ll spark your interest.
8. Head out on a hike
When it comes to outdoorsy couples’ activities, nothing beats a hike. You could pick a tricky route like Scafell Pike or opt for a flat riverside trail, then spend the day taking in the scenery and talking about everything under the sun. Away from the distractions of work and life, you’ll have a proper chance to enjoy each other’s company. Don’t forget to stop at a cosy pub after.
9. Volunteer together
Looking for different activities for couples? Definitely add volunteering to your list. Spending a few hours helping out a local charity, food bank, or animal shelter is a super nice way to do something positive, while spending time together away from your usual routine.
10. Go stargazing
We’re amping up the romance a notch with our last idea. You can either head out to your garden on a dark, clear night or do a road trip to one of the UK’s dark sky spots for an even better view. Fill a flask with hot chocolate and wrap up warm, then see how many constellations you can make out.
And there we have it, a bunch of different things to do as a couple! Hopefully you’re now feeling inspired and ready to plan your next date night. If you’ve been searching for ideas for an upcoming anniversary, don’t forget to take a peek at our collection of anniversary cards while you’re here.
